Excelsior Professional Pressure Cleaning & Painting

Larry Rudisill grew up in Greensboro and has lived here most of his life. He started his career in residential painting in 1986. His mentor was an excellent painter and business owner with the philosophy that preparation is 80% of the paint job. Larry holds that philosophy today in his own business. Environmental issues have been important to Larry since the 7th grade in the early 1970s when those concerns were fashionable. Gladly Larry says, “I am very happy environmental issues are in fashion again and that more and more companies are providing cleaning products, paints, and other products that have less impact on our earth.” Larry researches companies that produce both high quality and environmentally friendly products whether it is the cleaners and sealers he uses for pressure cleaning masonry and concrete or paints that are contain low VOCs.

One of Larry’s goals is to educate the consumer on how to preserve and strengthen their driveways and other masonry using eco-friendly cleaners and sealers. One product he uses to seal concrete driveways is made from an environmentally safe polyester polymer and other proprietary ingredients that once in the concrete fills the pores and blocks moisture from coming through the matrix. Since it is not a surface sealer it penetrates deeply (2-4 inches) and will not wear or weather away over time, instead it becomes part of the concrete matrix and actually increases its strength therefore protecting it from future spalling. It is particularly important to apply this to new driveways rather than waiting till they’re old and cracked.

Larry has also noticed the number of homes in the area that have black staining on the roofs. After a little research, he discovered that the cause is a very hardy algae called Gloeocapsa magma which loves to eat limestone in asphalt shingles. This shortens the life of the shingles among other problems. Seeing a need for this service, Larry will be adding roof cleaning to his business while keeping to his same standards of quality and eco-friendly products.
